And just like that, the summer is upon us! I hope you have some fun activities planned and are able to stay cool as well! We are hoping to squeeze some travel in between finishing up my clinical hours and awaiting the birth of our niece, all while trying to beat the Texas heat! Before we hit the pool though, I wanted to share what I’ve been learning this spring. I’ve missed sharing these posts along with Emily P. Freeman and friends, and I am glad to be back at it! I would love to hear what you’ve learned this spring in the comments!
The One Line A Day Journal is one of the best decisions my past self made for my current and future self.
I’ve shared this journal before, but I’ve been writing in it for just over a year now, so I now read what happened a year ago when I write in the current day….and I just love it! It helps me remember and be grateful for the Lord’s faithfulness that I may not have seen a year ago, but is so clear today.
Peonies are not weeds
Some of you gardeners just died a little inside from those four words…but I did learn this thanks to our home’s former owners planting some peonies for us to enjoy! However, I did think they were weeds and almost pulled them out! So very glad I did not as they were beautiful!!
After watching 9 seasons of a TV show, I feel like the characters are my friends
Since I’m always ten or twenty years behind the popular TV shows, my husband and I just finished The Office. It took us almost a year to get through all the seasons, but I loved it! I hated that it ended as I wanted to see more of Jim, Pam, Angela, Dwight, and all the others.
“Walking” in a graduation ceremony is almost as good as officially graduating.
I felt silly telling people we were heading to graduation, yet knowing I wasn’t officially graduating until August. However, I was pleasantly surprised during the graduation weekend as the excitement and feeling of accomplishment came even if the diploma won’t for a few months.
Dallas has a film festival
Who knew? We went and saw On Her Shoulders (<–highly recommend!!) with our — obviously much more in-the-know — friends, and the energy and excitement for all the new movies was contagious.
Holding my college roommate’s adorable baby makes me feel the passage of time
I was thankful to get to travel to Lubbock this spring to meet the precious, sweet baby of my college roommate and one of my best friends. It was such a special weekend, but there’s still a part of me that cannot believe I’m old enough that my best friends are having babies?! Seems like just yesterday we were heading to Arkansas for freshman orientation!
I love event planning
I knew this, but being in charge of the decor for my sister-in-law’s baby shower this month renewed my passion for hunting for cute deals, practical, useful decorations, and adorable ideas. The above are prints from Etsy and frames from Walmart!
#DemoDay can be fun
We did our own little demo weekend that would have made Chip proud! There was an old shed in our backyard we decided not to keep so we took it down. It was quite a bit of work, but the reward is great!! Special thanks to our families for helping (to our photo bombing dog)!
You can find exercise you look forward to!
After a long hiatus from consistency in exercise, I decided I needed to practice what I preach as a nurse. A friend mentioned barre3 so I headed to a studio near me and tried it out. I love it! Of course, it’s still exercise and is hard work, but I love the combination of ballet, pilates, cardio, yoga, and strength training!

OMG!!!! That artwork! I felt like I melted inside! So adorable!!!!
And yes… Finishing a long term series DOES feel a lot like losing friends…
Regarding the Peonies… GASP! What a lucky little thing though! (My absolute fave!) I’m sure you can craft a beautiful metaphor in there…
