The phrase I can’t wait to see how the Lord uses you in the future was almost always included on my encouragement notes I gave to others. With this blanket statement I not only disregarded the everyday moments of life, but also further perpetuated the vicious pressure we feel that only “big” things accomplished for the Lord count…and those “big” things are somewhere in front of each of us on the path of life…just make sure you don’t miss it!
How wrong I was.
You see, your everyday counts. In fact it’s where your most important work resides. Whether at your job, inside or outside the home, at school, in your marriage, with your kids, with family, with friends, at church, grocery shopping, or grabbing coffee — you have the chance to reflect Him through the way you converse, act — in the way your everyday speaks.
The lines of my notes read differently these days – I love seeing how you are serving Jesus in the everyday of your life, and I look forward to seeing how He continues to use you in ordinary and extraordinary ways.
I would write it to you too.
Smallness is greatness in this upside kingdom of Jesus. May we all let Him use our ordinary, everyday moments for His eternal glory.

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”
~Micah 6:8
