Happy Friday, friends! I hope everyone had a great week! It’s been a whirlwind around here, as expected after our change in location. We are slowly settling in here in Texas, but it’s been quite emotional at times. Graduate school and work and the administration of life never stops, so there’s been need for a lot of grace these last weeks! That being said, I’m excited to be back today with the usual Friday favorites. Below you’ll find what’s been making my everyday extraordinary both in life and links. I hope you’ll share your extraordinary in the comments!
Life Lately
Last Screen Porch Picture. Our North Carolina screen porch was easily our favorite space in our home. I snapped this picture the day before we left. It always had beautiful light in the mornings. I will miss that!!
Moving Stress Relievers. After a particularly hard morning and meeting right after the move, we decided to make everything better with caffeine and sugar 😉 The best part? These are two of our very favorite Dallas staples — White Rock Coffee and Unrefined Bakery.
Welcome Sunset. If you’ve been around here any time at all, you know I love sunsets, sunrises, clouds…pretty much the sky! (ha!) And North Carolina skies were so beautiful! However, as we drove into Dallas, this was our view. Not a bad sky show for our first night in our new home.
Blue Skies and Big Trees. The weather has been gorgeous here, and I couldn’t resist the light and breeze drawing me to this tree the other evening.
Being a #HometownTourist. I love the idea that fun activities and new places can be right down the street from where you call home. I am hoping to be as intentional as we were in North Carolina in finding new places to explore here in Texas. This week, I stumbled upon the cutest little coffee shop and bakery and had a delicious White Chocolate Mocha!
Dallas the Dog Picture of the Week
We are pretty successful dog sitters according to this picture, huh? 😉 We watched my in-laws Westie, Sadie, while they were out of town. She and Dallas are great friends until it comes to sharing food or toys 🙂 Dallas is slowly adjusting to the new place — a few nights ago, we took him to Yogurtland where he was the star of the show! He soaked up the attention like a pro, and I’m looking forward to seeing if being exposed to new places and people helps him be less anxious in the future.
Links Lately
“I am wrapping this up on Valentine’s Day, and the most genuine, non-vase-oriented gift I can hope for is that the right person reads this, finds Jason, and another love story begins.” Grab your tissues because if you haven’t already read this heart breaking yet beautiful essay –You May Want to Marry My Husband – by late author Amy Krouse Rosenthal, you must! Her words show an incredible heart and celebrate marriage, love, and hope.
“Recent studies are showing that taking time for silence restores the nervous system, helps sustain energy, and conditions our minds to be more adaptive and responsive to the complex environments in which so many of us now live, work, and lead.” Such a timely article for all of us — The Busier You Are, the More You Need Quiet Time
Need a smile to get you through Friday? Every time I look at this list of 15 Hilarious Kitchen Fails, I laugh out loud!
“But my hunger for connection knows that showing up is the only way to finding my way into community, into those late nights where it’s safe to cry and freak out and laugh and snort all within the same ten minutes. I want that. I want that when I’m the new girl and I want that for the new girls I meet.” Even though I’m not unfamilar with Texas and the people here — in two years, a lot happens in people’s lives! So, I resonated with Lisa-Jo Baker’s words for (in)courage: When You’re the “New Girl (Again)”. Here’s to being intentional and showing up!
Yummy Link of the Week
I love scones…as in they are probably in the top three of breads/desserts/pastries for me. That’s why seeing these Roasted Rhubarb Scone Sandwiches with Vanilla Bean Glaze made me wish I could be A Cozy Kitchen’s taste tester! Yumm…
