There’s nothing like visiting the Library of Congress in D.C. to inspire you in your reading life! Graduate school still holds most of my page count this month, but visiting the famous library more than made up for it. I could have stayed inside forever, taking in all the literary details. But enough about that — onto the books! As always, linking up with Modern Mrs. Darcy and readers around the web to share what I read this month.
Read this Month
Heaven Sent Rain by Lauraine Snelling – this month I just needed some light and fun reads and this book was a perfect fit. This sweet story about unlikely friendships and the impact they can have on your life was encouraging and cute with likable characters that you rooted for throughout. (3/5)
Lady of Milkweed Manor by Julie Klassen – I’ve really enjoyed Klassen’s other novels and this one was no exception. We meet Miss Charlotte Lamb under unfortunate circumstances, and we follow her life as it intertwines in the most unlikely way with a variety of characters. Somewhat predicable, but enjoyable nonetheless. (3.5/5)
Currently Reading
The Expats by Chris Pavone – I’ve barely started the first few pages in this one because I know it’s going to be a book I want to binge-read…and I haven’t had time! I’m hoping this recommended suspense novel lives up to the hype!
Deep Work by Cal Newport – Must read for everyone as we navigate this technology consumed world!! I’m about halfway through this one and highlighting every other sentence. So beyond fascinating to read about how much our online distractions can take away our ability to live up to our potential.
Stopped Reading
gods in Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson – Modern Mrs. Darcy listed this book as one of her favorites a few episodes back on the What Should I Read Next Podcast…it sounded intriguing so I picked it up. The character development and descriptions are vivid and draw you right into the story; however, the language and raw themes were a bit too much for my liking. I had to abandon this one.
Bought this Month
11/22/63 by Stephen King – I bought this novel for my dad for his birthday; however, I’ve heard nothing but great things so I’m hoping to read it soon too!
One Thousand Gifts Devotional by Ann Voskamp – my counselor recommended One Thousand Gifts to me, but when she heard I’d already read it, she suggested the devotional. The book was incredible, so I’m looking forward to incorporating the devotional into my daily schedule.
Up Next
I have multiple books in various stages of unfinished…many of them non-fiction, all good, but a bit overwhelming since they are all so good! I don’t want to rush through them, but I also just feel overwhelmed by all the advice and stories. I’m hoping to focus a bit more on fiction next month and to slowly decrease my “in progress” stack of non-fiction one day at a time.

Hey Jessica!
I’m so glad someone besides me abandoned Gods in Alabama! I just could not! I just Bekah Jane Pogue’s Chasing Real. Loved it! Currently reading Befriend by Scott Sauls, The Red Door Inn by Liz Johnson. I’m loving both these books. Up next, Esther Fleece and No More Faking Fine. I cannot wait to get my hands on Rebekah Lyons new release due to be in my hands next Tuesday!

Hi Tammy! I’m also glad to know I’m not the only one to abandon gods in Alabama…it had such rave reviews, but I just couldn’t either! And I just listened to Rebekah Lyons on Annie F. Downs podcast, and I really want her new book now too! 🙂 Hope you’ve had a great week!
