April is coming to a close (what?! Spring months always go so quickly!!); and with it the tradition continues of linking up with Emily P. Freeman on what I learned this month. I started this practice last fall, and I’m so thankful for it — it does really help to remember where I’ve been, what I’ve done, and where I’m going.
What have you learned this month?
Patience is a virtue….that I could definitely work on! My little adorable, yet naughty, four legged puppy child taught me this one. Yikes — acquiring a puppy is NOT for the faint of heart. I think I tricked myself into thinking it would be fairly smooth sailing for us since golden retrievers are known to be such good dogs…I’ve decided behind every sweet grown-up dog is a lot of hard work and ripped clothes from an overly playful pup!
The honeymoon period of moving cross country is over. I’m homesick. Big time. In a vulnerable, straight from my heart post this month, I shared I’ve been very homesick for Texas and the familiar lately. A move definitely offers quite a few (howbeit difficult) learning opportunities!!
You must plant tulips in the fall for them to bloom in the spring. So this is probably common knowledge, but I have zero green thumbs — as in all the plants I attempt to grow usually go to plant heaven within days…however, now that we are in a more favorable climate than before (Yes, I’m looking at you, Texas and your relentless heat!); I really want to plant some tulips!! However, I was informed I missed the window this year so I’m marking my calendar for fall 2016.
The advice you hear is true: if you get up around the same (early) time each day, it really is easier. I guess I have the puppy to thank for this one too! It wasn’t that we were sleeping in until noon everyday, but we would sleep in on Saturdays and until church on Sunday which made Monday mornings more difficult than they already always are. Between the puppy and my hospital shifts, we are up early each morning, and we are finding the consistent routine much easier.
Starburst Jellybeans are delicious. Random, yes, but I did learn this sweet candy fact this month, which was definitely yummy, but not good for my sugar intake!
I will miss teaching over the summer. To put this into context, I’ve been teaching once or twice a week this year on a college semester schedule. I know many of my teacher friends are on the summer countdown, and I cannot imagine how ready for a break they are from the energy it requires to teach children all day. That being said, I have really enjoyed my time teaching and will miss it this summer.

We are taking Star and Bella to day care 2-3 times a week. They love it and they get to play hard. When we get them home they are ready to be calm. The name of our dogie day care is The Velvet Snout the staff is wonderful. Puppies are a ton of work. I don’t know why we got two at once.

Hi Miss Debra — they are a ton of work!! I can’t imagine two!! But I have heard good things about doggie day cares — we may check it out for Dallas once he has all his shots! Miss you and Penney lots!

Your dog is darling but I can imagine it must be frustrating to patent a puppy! My husband and I have been wanting a dog but I told him I only want to adopt an adult dog; maybe once we are done with kids in diapers I will consider a puppy but a woman can only take so much potty training at once!

Hi Kendra! I cannot even imagine babies AND a puppy — goodness, too much!! I think adopting an older dog would be a great experience and may be what we do next 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
