‘Tis the (winter) season and there’s just something about a fireplace this time of year, right? Or maybe it’s just something about the fire itself with its burning and crackling, various shades of oranges, yellows, purples, and blues, luminescent when just embers, and powerful enough to destroy anything in its path even as the smallest spark.
The holidays are upon us as is winter and even though our part of the country it remains unseasonably warm, with the season comes the desire to sit in front of those flickering flames at all times of the day. Add twinkling lights and a decorated Christmas tree within my gaze, and I’m happy and content to bask in the warmth of the moment (some Christmas cookies within reach is always a plus too 🙂 ).
Too often, I tend to try to find big, lofty happenings to make my day worthwhile and exciting; yet when I grasp for this goal, I miss the little things I wouldn’t trade for the world.
That sentiment led me to start this blog a few months ago with the tagline, “Embrace your Extraordinary Everyday,” and while I write about a variety of topics – there’s something about the holidays and the fire’s glow that beckons me to stop, slow down, and simply enjoy today.
You see, while savoring the fire’s light — peace, joy, contentment, and rest amidst the busyness can thrive as I practice truly being still and thankful for the warmth of the fire, the brightness of the season, and for the chance to enjoy them both.
