I think it’s only fitting to review a Christmas book for the week of the highly anticipated holiday! Tidings of Comfort and Joy by T. Davis Bunn (who writes many, many other books I have enjoyed) is a sweet novel about how one person’s life story can impact others’ lives for generations to come.
Emily is a grandmother who is taking care of her granddaughter, Marissa, while the rest of their family goes on a Christmas vacation Marissa is too sick to attend. While nursing her granddaughter back to health, Emily tells Marissa the story of a Christmas long ago, a Christmas that really shaped the trajectory of Emily’s life. Emily’s story, set back at the end of War World II, is an emotional recollection of a group of people who modeled generosity to others and demonstrated what it looks like to live selflessly.
A touching tale that will remind you that the true spirit of Christmas lies not in what you receive, but in what you give.
