As I try more and more to notice the little things that make everyday life special – I realized how much I enjoy getting mail 🙂 Small cards, magazines, packages, even sometimes the advertisements! There’s just something about going out to the mailbox and finding something addressed especially to you.
Remember the days of pen pals? I remember we even sent (in the real mail – not e-mail) school pictures back and forth to one another so we could see what the other looked like. Now, with a few clicks, we can see someone’s life from middle school to middle age. Writing and receiving notes and cards happens to be one of my favorite things, but I think it is slowly becoming obsolete in this technology focused age. It makes me wonder if one day, all mail could possibly be electronic. That would be a sad day indeed. Until that day comes, though, I’m going to embrace the happiness that comes with a handwritten note composed especially for me!
A handwritten note or card in the days where technology rules (technology is great and has its place- but a text nor Facebook post can’t show up in your mailbox!) can be a wonderful encouragement. Such a great way to make someone’s everyday extraordinary – don’t you think? It definitely has the power to make me smile, and I hope the days of handwritten notes stay around for many years to come.
Did you have a pen pal growing up? Are you still in touch? What is your favorite piece of mail every month? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
[…] issues, yes, haha) Not sure why I enjoy them so much, but I do love stories, relationships, and getting mail so I really look forward to catching up with friends’ via the “old fashioned” way […]
