I have always really enjoyed Dee Henderson’s books. She is the writer of the O’Malley series, Uncommon Heroes series, and many other stand alone novels (although some characters are followed in multiple books). I remember one of my best friends and I reading through her O’Malley series in high school and loving it!
After a break in new books for a while, Ms. Henderson has published multiple in the last couple of years. I have really liked reading her novels once again, so I was excited to have a chance to read Taken.
Her books are known for being Christian fiction suspense/mystery, and she does an awesome job of plot and character development. Her heroes and heroines in her books are very authentic with tough issues and usually startling pasts. Taken was no exception — I couldn’t put it down and when I had to, I was trying to figure out mentally what was going to happen.
No spoilers here – but this book’s protagonist is a young woman who was kidnapped eleven years ago who suddenly escapes. She has enough information to destroy the cruel masterminds that have held her captive, but it’s a tenuous tight rope to walk for the authorities to know who to trust and how much information to release.
Since I have read all of Henderson’s books – I appreciated how she weaved other characters from previous novels into this one. However, if you haven’t read the other books, it may be frustrating to feel like you are missing pieces of the other characters’ stories.
Highly recommend this book and her other novels — suspenseful reads that hold onto Christian truth even in the midst of traumatic experiences.
